Destruction to Construction

It is just about a year ago that hurricane Irma ravaged our beautiful island of S. Maarten. While Irma wreaked havoc and left utter devastation, we found ourselves hiding in the mikvah area of the new Chabad House structure that was nearing completion. Our Chabad House and our family home were not spared from the hurricane's wrath.

It's been a year of recovery, and throughout it all, the flame of Judiasm continued to burn brightly on the island in caring for the US medical students at the University, arranging Torah classes, get-togethers and Shabbat services, Shabbat dinners, and celebrating the festivities of Chanukah, Purim, Pesach, and Shavuot with great joy.  We even managed to have a brit-milah for a fifth-generation local Jewish boy, and hosted some events for the tourists who made the daring trip during this past year.

And now, our family looks forward, with renewed strength and determination, to a full-time return to the island. With the attraction of newly-renovated resorts that will open in the course of this coming year, and with the completion of our new Chabad Center that will be the hub of all our activities, we anticipate a rebound in Jewish life, bigger and better than before.

We thank G-d for all His kindness, and we ask you to partner in our holy work with your generous contribution to help us re-open the Chabad House and get us going for the year ahead. May it be a year of blessing, of goodness and growth for all.
